My Values

If you could not tell from my calling, I live by the verse Isaiah 6:8, because that so perfectly sums up how I was called into ministry. And I know that God has sent me to do his work, because he has so beautifully equipped me.

Another verse I love is Matthew 16:25: “Whoever tries to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” I remind myself of this verse often so that it keeps me bold and willing. I need the reminder to go bold here on earth, so I can go home to God in heaven. My life here on earth is not meant to be kept safe, but rather to be bold in faith, and to do everything I possibly can to seek and save the lost and broken. As it says in Matthew 5:15: “No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket, but rather, they place it on a stand so it can bring its light to the whole house. Similarly, I want to share my light - the love and joy found in Jesus - with every one I can, I do not want to hide it away.

I also love Jude 1:20-23: “But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. And have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.” This passage to me is what it means to be a Christian. It is the instruction manual: Step 1) Pray often - keep the Holy Spirit close by at all times and at the center of your life. Step 2) Be gracious to those who are trying to grow in faith, but be aggressive to help those who stumble. Step 3) Chase those who are on the wrong path. I re read this passage probably once a week because I need this reminder often.

My core value is to love because He first loved me. I did nothing to deserve his love, and I have done nothing to keep his love, but for some reason his love for me has not expired yet. He continues to show me his love every day, and his mercy for me is new everyday. And it is because of that abounding love and mercy that I too want to show love to everyone else who has not had the chance to experience it, or even to those who just need to be reminded that his love is for them and does not run out.
